A couple of weeks ago I was taking some environmental photos of an ex-colleague. I got to her apartment mid-morning and as it turned out, she was running a bit late. So I started taking some pictures around her apartment while I was waiting for her. To get her to be comfortable I asked her to just kinda start doing her own thing.
"What do you usually do in the mornings?" I asked
"I usually have my coffee, granola, read and/or sketch." was her response
So I had her do that.
In doing so, I started thinking of a time in college when I took photos of friends while they were still sleeping. I've always been a morning person and some of my most treasured memories have taken place in the mornings. Thinking about that time in college and shooting these images of a woman and her morning routine made me realize that those kinds of 'spaces' have always been of interest to me.
And so, I will be starting a series of portraits of people in the morning: What they do, what they eat, what they read, how they look, etc. If you are interested in being part of this series and you are in SF let me know!
